Philosophy

We believe that we challenge individuals through adventurous activities so they learn and experience new things that enrich their lives.

The aim of the Scout Association and the 1st Whittlesford and Duxford Scout Group is to help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. We do this by providing an enjoyable and attractive scheme of progressive training, based on the Scout Promise and law, and guided by adult leadership. This is called the balanced programme. We offer young people a range of activities, events and experiences built around six programme zones: beliefs and attitudes, community, fitness, creative, global, outdoor and adventure.

Personal achievement can be recognised by earning awards and badges leading to the Chief Scout’s Awards and the Queen’s Scout Award.

All activities are provided in accordance with the Scout Association’s Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR) details of which can be found at: POR_Jan_2015 (All)

The Group has also introduced a series of policies and procedures, in addition to those in the Scout Association’s POR, on which the Group operates in order to achieve ‘best practice’. Details of these policies and procedures are given here: policies parents -revisions january 2015 and safety guidelines – parents april 2015.
